Description

Utagawa Toyokuni III, also known as Utagawa Kunisada, (1786-1865) is a Japanese artist who specialized in ukiyo-e woodblock prints. He was the most popular, prolific, and commercially successful designer of these types of woodblock prints in Japan. In Europe, Toyokuni III and his contemporaries Utagawa Hiroshige and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, were considered to bring the downfall of the art of woodblock prints until 1930-1990s.
