Abstract

In this chapter I describe two learner-centered projects for the concert band, where students are made responsible for making creative decisions related to rehearsals and to original music making. Projects similar to these could be used in most any ensemble setting—large and small, instrumental and vocal, or mixed. Consideration is provided for how these projects could be integrated starting in a beginning band setting and then used increasingly throughout middle and high school band programs.
